Overview
Customer: HBIS Serbia
Country: Serbia
Industry: Construction
Solution: i2Backup, i2UP
HBIS Serbia runs critical business systems on Fibre Channel (FC) infrastructure, supported by China Telecom Europe. As part of a broader infrastructure modernization effort, the company began transitioning away from its previous backup vendor to Info2soft’s i2Backup platform.
Because the migration involved business-critical systems, HBIS Serbia could not simply switch providers overnight. The two backup platforms needed to operate in parallel for a transitional period, ensuring continuous data protection throughout the changeover without disrupting daily operations.
Customer Challenges
- Critical business systems were deployed on FC infrastructure, with more than 60 TB of backup data to manage.
- The migration required both the legacy backup platform and Info2soft’s solution to run simultaneously for a period, adding operational complexity.
- Storage capacity was tightly constrained, leaving no room for redundant or inefficient backup data.
- Backup and retention policies had to be strictly enforced despite the limited available space.
Solution
- i2Backup‘s agentless backup support for FC platforms allowed data protection to be deployed without adding agent overhead to critical systems, simplifying coexistence with the legacy vendor.
- Synthetic backup combined with deduplication and compression reduced the overall backup volume, directly addressing the storage capacity constraints.
- i2UP provided centralized management of all virtual machine backup tasks, giving administrators a single point of control across the environment during the transition.
- Mission-critical VMs were assigned higher-frequency, higher-priority backup policies to protect recovery point objectives (RPO) for the most sensitive workloads.
- The architecture was designed to support stable, parallel operation of both backup platforms, allowing a phased cutover rather than a disruptive one-time switch.
Results
- Enabled a smooth, low-risk transition away from the legacy backup vendor without interrupting protection of critical systems.
- Reduced backup storage footprint through deduplication and compression, easing pressure on limited capacity.
- Simplified administration by consolidating VM backup management into a single centralized platform.
- Strengthened data protection for mission-critical workloads through tailored, higher-frequency backup policies.
- Maintained compliance with existing backup and retention policies throughout the migration period.
