China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is one of China’s largest state-owned enterprises, operating across construction, real estate development, and infrastructure investment. With a broad portfolio of business systems supporting finance, operations, and project management, the organization requires robust, enterprise-grade IT infrastructure to support its scale.
As the primary production data center reached full capacity, CSCEC established a new same-city disaster recovery center to expand infrastructure headroom and gradually migrate development and testing environments away from the production site. The first phase of this initiative focused on protecting the Financial Automation System — a business-critical platform spanning 102 servers, a three-node SAP HANA cluster, 13 Oracle database instances, MySQL databases, and a FastDFS distributed file storage system. Establishing a reliable, centralized backup and recovery framework was the immediate priority.
Customer Challenges
- The production data center had reached physical capacity, requiring a new disaster recovery site to absorb workload and provide resilience for 38 business systems
- The Financial Automation System combined multiple heterogeneous data layers — SAP HANA, Oracle, MySQL, and file storage — each with different protection requirements
- SAP HANA required continuous data protection with near-zero data loss tolerance, while Oracle databases needed both local and off-site backup coverage
- The organization needed a scalable architecture capable of replicating backup data from the same-city DR center to a geographically separate site
- Recovery validation — through structured drills — was required to verify that backup data could actually be restored within acceptable timeframes
Solution
- Two bare-metal servers were deployed in the financial infrastructure zone to serve as the backup control node and disaster recovery node, providing dedicated backup management capacity
- Network connectivity was established between the DR node and cloud-based NAS storage, with backup storage volumes mapped directly to the DR node for centralized data management
- The backup control node issued backup jobs to the Financial Automation System server cluster, directing data transfers to the DR node across the storage network
- Continuous Data Protection (CDP) was enabled for SAP HANA to provide real-time replication and eliminate data loss risk for the most critical workloads
- Backup data was replicated 1:1 from the same-city DR center to a geographically separate site, establishing a three-tier protection chain: production → same-city DR → remote DR
Results
- Delivered a complete backup and recovery framework for the Financial Automation System, covering design, implementation, drill execution, and formal recovery validation
- SAP HANA critical data is now protected with CDP, ensuring continuous replication and eliminating recovery point gaps for the highest-priority workloads
- All 13 Oracle database instances are covered by both local and off-site backup, with recovery verification completed to confirm data integrity and restorability
- A three-tier disaster recovery topology — production, same-city DR, and remote DR — provides layered protection against both localized failures and site-level outages
- A graphical management console gives operations staff a unified view of backup status and job monitoring, reducing administrative complexity across a heterogeneous environment
